The Grading Journey

Shipping

Once your cards are packaged, you need to get them to the grading company safely. The carrier, service level, and insurance you choose will determine your peace of mind and your recourse if something goes wrong.

USPS Priority Mail package

USPS Priority Mail

USPS Priority Mail is the most popular choice for card submissions. It includes up to $100 of insurance by default and delivers in 1 to 3 business days. For higher-value submissions, purchase additional insurance through USPS or a third-party insurer like Collectibles Insurance Services.

FedEx shipping box

FedEx & UPS

For high-value submissions, FedEx and UPS offer better tracking granularity and higher default declared value limits. Some collectors prefer FedEx overnight or 2-day for expensive cards. Check the grading company's preferred carrier, since some have agreements that speed up intake processing.

Insurance Tips

Declare the actual market value of your cards, not the grade you hope to receive. Take photos of every card, every layer of packaging, and the sealed box before dropping it off. If a claim is ever needed, documentation is everything. Keep your tracking number until grades are returned.
