Your Grades Are In
Most grading companies notify you via email when your order is complete. Before your physical slabs even arrive, you can usually look up your grades online using your order number or the certification number printed on each label.
The Cert Number
Every graded card gets a unique certification number (cert number) printed on the label. This number is the card's permanent identity. You can enter it on the grading company's website to verify authenticity, see the grade history, and confirm the card spec. Always verify a cert number before buying a graded card.
Label Types & Special Designations
Some cards receive special labels beyond the standard numeric grade. PSA uses "OC" (off-center), "MK" (marked), and "PD" (print defect) qualifiers. BGS awards a coveted Black Label for pristine sub-grades. CGC issues a Pristine 10 distinct from a Perfect 10. These designations significantly affect value.
What To Do With Your Grade
A grade you are happy with can go straight to market on eBay, PWCC, or Goldin. A lower-than-expected grade is worth researching, since sometimes a PSA 8 in a thin population sells for more than a PSA 9 in an oversaturated one. Check population reports on each company's website before pricing your card.
